about

“The truth lies somewhere in the middle.”

Black, White & Gray is about perspective skepticism. More specifically, it’s about how many perspectives there are… on everything. Every fairytale you’ve ever heard could have ended an infinite number of ways and most of the stories you have been told have more than one side. Even the celebrity stories we see in the media and historical case-studies that seem so clear cut always have another side. Most of the time it’s quite likely that we may never know what that other side is… but the point is to know that there is always more than one way to tell each story. Putting all your belief in one side of a story or argument is very thin and often leads to conclusions and opinions that can be easily dismantled. It never hurts to keep an open mind and realize that good things are often not as good as they might seem and that many bad things are not nearly as bad as they might seem.

This is a blues song with a hint of traditional jazz and fusion that tells a story, one story from several different points of view with periods of reflection in-between each telling. Notice how each telling melodically is slightly different and how each reflective period encompasses a varying range of emotions and sonic colors morphing along with the compounded story variants told. It is a story of sadness as is felt in the melody. Though every once in a while, on a different side one might feel moments of “silver lining” which reflects how many times in life the intensity of a situation can change just from your point of view and disposition.

There are many sides to this story and like most, it is not as black and white as it seems once all the shades of gray have been brought into view…
