about

Anyone who has either known someone working in the entertainment industry or worked in it in some capacity themselves likely has a special relationship with the hours after dusk. For those of us with longer than average circadian rhythms, this is a song about you.

The night time is interesting on a variety of levels. During the evening it becomes more challenging to notice time passing as, without the sun moving through our field of view and with most of the social interactions slowing to a standstill, the world just seems to be put on pause for a while. In the modern age during the day, things are usually moving so fast that we don’t have time to just pause for a moment and think deeply about the world around us. The evening hours I find are more accommodating to the artistic thought process. As something of a night owl myself, I find there always seems to be a cycle when you’re alone at night. I find for me that cycle is constantly floating between points of thought and action. Thinking about things and then working, alternating between low and high energy states. Writing a lot of this album came in the evening when I had the most time to sit back and really get into a broader mindset about life and the things we experience and then find the inspiration to lay down the groundwork for a new piece.

This song compositionally is reflecting that alternation between those energy states. The constant transitioning between thought and action. In the center of the piece there is a depiction of a dilemma. That dilemma when you’re up terribly late but still have ideas on some things to finish. Then the question comes “do I write this down, get some shut-eye and resume tomorrow hoping I’ll be in the same state of mind I’m in now? Or do I push forward, finish this train of thought and deal with the consequences later?”. Sometimes creatively, you can get in “The Zone” and it is unclear when the stars will align and you will find yourself in that zone again. For me I always try to get the most out of those creative episodes. It’s just unfortunate that they tend to come at the least practical times in my day.

Enjoy gliding through this piece that is essentially a piece about the passing of time during the unique moments when time appears to stand still.
