Passion is a great thing to see in people. Passion can drive people to some incredible achievements and accomplishments. It can also drive people to emotions that they would never feel under any other circumstances… like anger for example. Have you ever had a stranger insult your significant other or heard that your best friend was just mugged on a street corner and then quickly find yourself in such a frenzy that you can hardly think straight as your blood starts boiling? This is a song taking us down that path.

The levels of passion we experience when someone we care about is threatened or berated often far exceeds even the anxiety we ourselves feel when we are in danger or being unjustly criticized. This is often the same passion and energy that drives people who are otherwise unfit physically to lift up a 2-ton car when one of their friends is trapped underneath.

This song is taking us through the story of such a frenzy. There is so much energy in this track with so much going on that it can seem a bit unclear at times and difficult to follow. This reflects the often very fragmented and distorted thought process of someone going through one of these zeal-driven frenzies. Whether the outcome of one of these situations is good or bad, most often we come out of them feeling like we were not totally in control of our body and emotions like a fight or flight response which can be a very scary experience for many. The sonic ferocity of Overzealous is meant to reflect how sometimes we don’t know what we are capable of until one of our friends or loved ones is in danger. Sometimes realizing what our limits really are can be unnerving and leave us feeling a bit afraid of ourselves. But if one can learn to channel that raw passion, we can all accomplish great things that we may not even realize. The breakdown in the middle of this song is meant to symbolize that harnessing leading to a positive resolution in the end.
