about

It’s amazing how much effort we spend trying to save face. In-fact I’d make the bold guess that many of us spend more effort each day trying to avoid humiliation and criticism than anything else. I’m no exception to this either. I have many shortcomings and have spent an unreasonable amount of time trying to mask those up and be the image of perfection in the past. As humans, those efforts are wasted as none of us now or ever will ever be anything close to perfect, which is a good thing. If we were perfect, what would we have left to work towards or accomplish? Imperfections give both people and things character and colour.

The closer to perfection something grows to be, the less interesting it becomes. This is why so many of us would prefer to buy something that is handmade for 4 times the price of the same item made on an automated assembly line. Be proud of the things that are the least perfect about you because many of those things are what make you different from every other person on this planet. The things you are good at are just as much a part of your identity as the things you are bad at. Now, this doesn’t mean you should not look to improve some of these things (as I think we all owe it to ourselves to be the best version of ourselves we can be in our lifetime and we can only get there by constant and continuous self-analysis and improvement). Just make sure the things you focus on improving are the things that YOU want to do, not the things that you think other people would like you more for.

This song musically is painting a picture of the person many of us want to seem like we are. It’s groovy, tight, cool and thick-skinned. But it’s also a bit hollow. The song ends on a strong but gritty chord as we finally take a break and let a bit of our true self shine through… because pretending to be someone you’re not can be really exhausting.
